Hermes perfume Un Jardin

Hermes perfume Un Jardin was originally launched in 2003 in a limited edition, but it soon became the first of Hermes’ perfume line called “Gardens.” It was also the first Hermes perfume created by Jean-Claude Ellena as exclusive perfume designer of the company. The aim of Ellena’s style is to evoke memories and feelings using high quality ingredients. The result can only be an exclusive fragrance, for many people, but not for everybody. In this perspective, Ellena is very similar to Thierry Mugler.
I must admit I haven’t bough this perfume for a while, but I stumbled upon it the other day during my weekly round in the perfume section of my local shopping centre, and I though that I should buy it at least once a year, for old time’s sake.

Most likely I will buy it in two weeks, when I come back from my holidays in Tunisia and I’ll need something to help me prolong the magic smells of that part of the world. This Hermes perfume “Un Jardin en Méditerranée” evokes gardens on the shores of Mediterranean Sea, especially the Northern African part, thanks to the use of fig, cedar, bay leaves and Malosma, a small tree that grows in Turkey.

The opening notes are green, and very pure, also with hints of citrus notes like bergamot or orange. Everything becomes gradually sweeter, with the fig (or fig tree leaves) notes. The general aroma is between earthy and citrus, with the occasional cool note similar to menthol.
The middle notes don’t change much: the fig stands out, changing from a fruity to a woody note.
In the base notes the fig is ripe, and is still the main note, although softer. This allows the nose to perceive the aromatic notes of in the background.
It’s a very intense perfume, with a long duration, the wood notes stuck to the test paper for one week.

This Hermes perfume has a fresh and aromatic spirit, and it’s usually labeled as unisex, thanks to the fruity and woody notes, that make it masculine in the summer and feminine both in summer and in winter, although its best time of the year is the summer heat in open spaces. In the office it doesn’t go unnoticed, and although it’s a quite informal fragrance, it can be worn in formal events too. The fruity notes have a gourmand touch, and the fact that it’s a unisex fragrance, makes it even more romantic and attracting to the opposite sex. The age range is between 25 and 45 years.
