Guidelines For Guest Posting

This is a perfume blog for the rest of us, who know squat about perfumes, but love them all the same (sounds like a manifesto, doesn’t it?).

And it’s also a place open to guest posting, so why hide it. Here are the guidelines.

Topics

Perfume reviews, obviously. I do mainly designer, but I won’t say no to good stuff, so niche are welcome as well. Whatever it is, the only golden rule is that it has to be something not reviewed here before.

Quality

Anyone is entitled to their idea of quality and this is mine, although I think it’s mainly common sense.

  • guest posting is NOT article marketing. If you don’t know what article marketing is, you can skip this point. If you do, this is the wrong place for spun crap. ’nuff said
  • the review must be original, which means not published anywhere, neither in the past nor in the future
  • you have to have actually smelt the stuff you’re writing about, so be personal. Rewrites of press releases are quite easy to spot
  • Opinion +  description. Your opinion is obviously part of the package, however remember that you should put whoever doesn’t know the fragrance in the condition to get an idea of it. For the same reason, comparisons with other perfumes are fine, but please use them sparingly, as too many wouldn’t be useful to those who don’t know the perfume you’re using as a reference

Length

It shouldn’t be too short, right? I would say that below 200 words it’s hard to say something meaningful (although I would swear I wrote some reviews here with less than that), but try not to make it too long either. There’s no such thing as too much useful information, but no one wants to read a 2000 word perfume review (at least I know I wouldn’t).

Linking

Outbound linking to your site. Yes of course, that’s the whole point, right? However, just because the reviews won’t be too long, the link to your site will be just one, but with the anchor text you prefer. Please add 3-4 lines of presentation in italics before the post (you’re free to show off) and that’s where the link will be. No linking from within the post, sorry.

Internal links. If you find any post in this site that can be useful, feel free to link as much as you want from within the main body. But no worries, you don’t have to spend time browising through the site. I’ll place internal links anyway wherever appropriate.

Images

If the image you want to use is not the normal perfume ad, it has to be properly credited and attributed.

Acceptance

As the gorgeous Gigliola Cinquetti used to sing, “e qui comando io, e questa e’ casa mia,” so if I refuse your article, don’t be offended, as I said above, quality is arbitrary. Besides, you are allowed to blame me for not understanding how good your post was.

Formatting

Here’s what I would do: write the post in the editor of your own blog, do the formatting you prefer, then copy the html view in a notepad.  Please add paragraphs, make it readable.

My editing to your article

Post titles are important, so they will be mine to write. Also, I may change some of the main keywords to make them more search engine friendly. Of course, in no way I will alter your opinion or censor what you say and publish your article. They did it with me once and I absolutely hated it.

Wanna spare a little courtesy?

After the post is published, I won’t ask you to publish a brief description of it on your site with a link back to the post… but sure I won’t be offended if you do. Besides, why shouldn’t you tell the world?

If you are interested, I can’t wait to hear from you. Go to the contact page and shoot me a message, we’ll take it from there.
