Calvin Klein Perfume For Women: Eternity
This Calvin Klein perfume for women is from 1988, and it is one of his most known fragrances. Even if it reached its peak of popularity during the nineties it’s still in the top ten of the most sold perfumes in the world. It was conceived as a romantic women’s perfume (both in the sense of romantic perfume for women and perfume for romantic women), whose name is inspired by the classic values of love and family union. Calvin Klein was actually inspired by his own wedding (which had taken place the year before) to create it.
One of the ads for Eternity perfume was in black and white, with a young couple cuddling and she sings softly “What the world…needs now…is love…sweet love…” by Jackie De Shannon (one of my favorite songs btw).
Needless to say it was the first Calvin Klein cologne I ever bought. I still wear it, but less than before, I guess I wore it too much in the past and my nose has become a tad sensitive.
The notes
As any respectable womans perfume, the opening notes are sweet and floral, and the mix of perfume ingredients is quite recognizable. At this stage the violet is perhaps a bit more prominent, but there are also more classic floral like rose. In the middle notes, violet still stands out, but it gradually fades into sweeter and aromatic notes. It could be pepper, or clove, or a more mature flower like spikenard, narcissus or a soft hyacinth. In this floral feast, here and there some sweet notes show up. The heart notes are the rose and the violet from before, but sweeter, plus a bitter touch of (probably) carnation. There is also an earthy aroma, like a sweet wood or a root.
To sum up
Eternity for men has a good density and intensity, the violet is so persistent (the name Eternity could easily refer to its duration), that it could give you a headache if you’re not keen on strong fragrances.
Since the very first whiff, this CK perfume has always given me the idea of an office fragrance, very feminine and recognizable, a classic perfume, without being old, it suits well a tailored dress. It’s not bad for romantic dates as its floral notes are very feminine and not too sweet, although I think it’s essentially a winter perfume and gives its best in formal occasions. It’s an elegant fragrance, so please do not wear it after the gym. It’s an all-year perfume, fresh and floral enough for the spring and quite lukewarm for winter.
